The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has launched a public awareness campaign to promote the benefits of renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency in Guyana. The campaign is part of a broader energy programme which is the "Sustainable Energy Programme for Guyana".

The Sustainable Energy Programme is being implemented with grant-funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the fund is being managed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

 The campaign slogan is:

Home, Work, Community – Powered by 100% Renewable Energy

 “Let’s Make it Happen!”

The objectives of the campaign are:

  • To improve knowledge and understanding of renewable energy technologies among the target audience.
  • To improve public understanding of the principles and need for energy conservation and substitution.
  • To create awareness and support for Government’s vision of transitioning towards renewable energy in the power sector.
  • To create a favourable environment for achievement of energy policy targets as well as changes in attitudes and behaviour of energy consumers in Guyana.

The campaign target audiences are:

  • The general public and stakeholders
  • Youth populations
  • Community and social media influencers
  • Householders/homeowners
  • Businesses including large, medium or micro enterprises
  • Policymakers
  • Indigenous communities
  • Media

By adopting renewable energy technologies we can:

  1. Save money on electricity.
  2. Reduce global warming by reducing the use of fossil fuels like diesel and gasolene.
  3. Improve public health by reducing harmful emissions caused by burning fossil fuels.
  4. Create green jobs.
  5. Be energy independent.
  6. Have stable energy prices.
