The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has launched a public awareness campaign to promote the benefits of renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency in Guyana. The campaign is part of a broader energy programme which is the "Sustainable Energy Programme for Guyana".
The Sustainable Energy Programme is being implemented with grant-funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the fund is being managed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The campaign slogan is:
Home, Work, Community – Powered by 100% Renewable Energy.
“Let’s Make it Happen!”
The objectives of the campaign are:
- To improve knowledge and understanding of renewable energy technologies among the target audience.
- To improve public understanding of the principles and need for energy conservation and substitution.
- To create awareness and support for Government’s vision of transitioning towards renewable energy in the power sector.
- To create a favourable environment for achievement of energy policy targets as well as changes in attitudes and behaviour of energy consumers in Guyana.
The campaign target audiences are:
- The general public and stakeholders
- Youth populations
- Community and social media influencers
- Householders/homeowners
- Businesses including large, medium or micro enterprises
- Policymakers
- Indigenous communities
- Media
By adopting renewable energy technologies we can:
- Save money on electricity.
- Reduce global warming by reducing the use of fossil fuels like diesel and gasolene.
- Improve public health by reducing harmful emissions caused by burning fossil fuels.
- Create green jobs.
- Be energy independent.
- Have stable energy prices.
